Dr Fiona Payne BSc, MB BS, MD

Dr Fiona Payne qualified from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1989. After completing pre-registration jobs, she used her British Medical Journal, award winning writing skills and became medical editor for Dorling Kindersley. During her three years at DK she wrote, edited, and featured in over 15 medical books, including the Home Medical Library Series in conjunction with the American Medical Association and numerous books for adults and children.

Having relocated to Sissinghurst with her husband, pursuing his surgical career and the birth of their first child; she re entered hospital medicine and trained for 3 years in surgery, oncology, obstetrics and gynaecology.

Dr Payne moved back to London in 1997, with two young children and her husband, now a Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Charing Cross Hospital. She completed a year in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St Thomas’s Hospital and passed Part 1 MRCOG. She subsequently edited a further book for Dorling Kindersley.

In 1998 she commenced GP training and subsequently took up a fulltime NHS GP Partnership in Putney. During the next 10 years she continued her medical career, taking on management commitments and successfully amalgamating two medical practices into a single modern NHS Medical Centre with over 15,000 patients.

Dr Payne was appointed to the Wandsworth Primary Executive Committee in 2006 and became Commissioning Lead for Putney and Roehampton in 2007. She commissioned radiology and breast-screening services for Wandsworth and in 2008 was elected to the Committee for the Externalisation Queen Mary’s Hospital Roehampton, which took place successfully on 1st October 2010.

Using this considerable experience in both patient care and senior management, Dr Payne decided to develop a new General Practice at 92 Harley Street with her colleague Dr Justine Setchell. Together they aim to re establish holistic General Practice which is up to date and unhurried, supportive yet honest and takes care of the individual’s needs.

Dr Payne has many outside interests. She enjoys theatre, opera and ballet and is a member of the Tate Galleries and the Royal Academy. She also keeps fit and by rowing for Barnes Bridge Ladies Rowing Club and trains regularly for marathons.
