Mr Stuart Lavery MBBCh MSc MRCOG

Mr Lavery is a Consultant in Gynaecology, Reproductive Medicine and Surgery.  He holds an NHS consultant position at the Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals, one of London’s premier teaching hospitals.  He has a private practice at both the Hammersmith Hospital and 92 Harley Street.

He is the director of IVF Hammersmith, one of the United Kingdom’s largest IVF Units with an international reputation as a centre of excellence for assisted conception. He is also the HFEA ‘Person Responsible’ for IVF Hammersmith.

Mr Lavery is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Reproductive Medicine at Imperial College London.  He is the author of more than 30 publications in the field (link to publications), has presented at numerous international and national meetings, and serves on international advisory boards for the pharmaceutical industry.  He trained as an undergraduate in South Africa before completing post-graduate specialisation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a registrar at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.  Mr Lavery then completed a research fellowship at Imperial College in IVF and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis.  He has coordinated the PGD service at the Hammersmith Hospital since 1997.  Mr Lavery achieved Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology accreditation as a Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine through Imperial College in 2000.  During this time he was awarded an MSc in Human Reproductive Biology with distinction (link to CV).  His current research interests are in assisted conception, reproductive surgery and preimplantation genetic diagnosis.

Mr Lavery is also trained in specific reproductive surgical techniques such as open microsurgery for repair of damaged fallopian tubes.  He is accredited in the minimal access (or ‘key-hole’) techniques of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. He performs two operating lists per week, these currently take place at the Hammersmith Hospital.  Mr Lavery is an active member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and serves as an inspector of Subspecialty training programs and trainees in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery.  He is also a member of the British Fertility Society and acts as an official spokesman for the organisation. He is also a member of the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

Mr Lavery is married with three children and lives in Buckinghamshire.
